Family history

Family history

I got to spend a lot of time with my parents – I was truly at home this time by working from home for 10 days and being around them 24/7. the ‘why’ is not important, but lets call it an health embuggarance.

2 days before I left, we were discussing employment in the 70s and I asked Baba about his first salary and job 🙂 I know asking someone about their salaries is impolite, but I committed that sin knowing I wasn’t going to tell anyone. He has lived a pretty tough life – in the sense of losing familial anchors when young and coming to terms with the enormity of the responsibility at hand at a young age. Basically what we call today as – becoming a full grown adult within 1 year. He talked fondly about the missed opportunities and the ones which turned into something fruitful. There wasn’t an ounce of bitterness in his words or tone. #lifegoals

I know that life’s drivers and problems and their solutions were different for his generation. I wonder though if, over time, our struggles also remain the same. In comparison, I have had a far richer and better life so far, given the times we live in and the responsibilities I have never had. But I still struggle. Then I wonder about fate. Is it fated? Does our family history tranform and serve us in the same way? Or is it plain causality?
